OVERVIEW

Ami is my personal project, a prototype of a desktop assistant designed to support productivity and mental well-being for remote workers and students. The assistant helps users structure their days, reduce stress, and find balance, offering a space to retreat to rather than another source of pressure.

SERVICES

UI design, Illustration, Animation

Ami’s identity is built around a pixel-based visual language, blending retro game elements with soft, modern UI design to create a distinctive sense of calm and comfort. The colour palette, interface forms, and animation are all inspired by nature and cosy games, creating an environment that reduces anxiety.

RESEARCH & RATIONALE

Ami was developed in response to rising levels of stress, burnout, and anxiety among Gen Z as remote work and online learning continue to expand. Research into productivity techniques such as the Pomodoro method, and behavioural design principles informed the inclusion of task timers, daily “quests”, scheduling tools, and reward systems.

Anchor 1

Ami’s character design centres on expressiveness and relatability. Multiple hand-drawn facial expressions were created to guide interactions, ensuring the assistant feels alive and emotionally attuned. The goal was to strike a balance between whimsical personality and reassuring presence.

CHARACTER DESIGN

Ami integrates a range of supportive features designed to make productivity feel approachable and engaging. Its quest-based task management transforms everyday responsibilities into simple, game-like goals, complemented by Pomodoro timers and scheduling tools. Mood checks and journal prompts assist with emotional regulation throughout the day. To encourage calm, Ami offers nature-inspired ambient scenes along with breathing exercises. These are reinforced by a reward system designed to promote long-term engagement and healthier working habits.
