OVERVIEW

Voiceless Oceans purpose is to educate the public about the severity of ocean plastic pollution and mobilise financial support for (The Ocean Cleanup) an organisation dedicated to cleaning the oceans from plastic.

The campaign employs a watercolour style in deep blues and greys to convey seriousness and atmospheric weight, while bright orange, placed deliberately opposite on the colour spectrum, provides striking contrast to highlight plastic pollution. Use of dark humour adds shock value and memorability to the campaign aiming to create more engagement.

INTEGRATION OF GENERATIVE AI

This assignment to create an non-profit campaign was set by the University of Westminster during my Bachelor’s degree, and I was assgined to explore the use of Artificial Intelligence. I hold a cautious stance on incorporating AI into creative processes and am of the opinion it should be avoided. I do, however, recognise its potential to shorten certain workflows and the importance of understanding AI.

Anchor 1

For this campaign, AI was used exclusively to generate the backgrounds, the ship imagery, and the characters’ voices. I want to be transparent about this, as none of my other projects involve AI. All character animation was created entirely by me, frame by frame. The AI-generated backgrounds were imported into Photoshop, separated into individual elements, and then brought into Adobe After Effects for animation. Generative AI was also used for the voiceovers, which were mixed with the audio during the final stages of production.
