Little Prince - AR Experience

Date

March - April 2024

Project type

3D Model Design and AR Experience Design

For this self-led collaborative project, I drew inspiration from The Little Prince, a story rich in themes of playful exploration, creativity, philosophical inquiry, and the joy of simple pleasures. My goal was to encourage playfulness during bedtime story reading with parents. The project consists of interactive cards featuring quotes from the book that connect to 3D models of the characters, designed to appeal to both children and adults.

The design aimed to feel analogue, with a painted visual language. The cards were designed by fellow Graphic Designer Esha Wadhwani, while I designed and animated the 3D models. Due to the AR software’s strict asset size limitations, the models were created in a low-poly style to save on file size. By hand-painting the UV maps, the models achieved a unique aesthetic, resembling origami figures with a whimsical, handmade quality.

Unfortunately, the final outcome didn’t work as well as we had hoped, as the AR software included a built-in lighting system we couldn’t adjust, which interfered with the intended visual effect. However, with better AR software, this concept could potentially be revisited and fully realized. Below, I’m showcasing videos that demonstrate this process and the interactive experience.
