Project type
Booklet and Graph Design
Date
September - November 2023
Location

Data visualization is a powerful tool for turning complex information into clear, eye-catching visuals that help us uncover patterns and spark new insights. For this project, I used these principles to shed light on an important environmental issue: raising awareness about the endangered vaquita porpoise. This effort brought together storytelling, graphic design, and data visualization to create an impactful environmental awareness campaign.
The project dives into the economic and ecological challenges driving the vaquita’s decline, with a focus on the illegal trade of totoaba swim bladders and its troubling ties to organized crime.
Design choices played a big role in making this campaign effective. I chose a bold three-color palette, dynamic illustrations, and charts that mix numbers with storytelling. The final product—a concertina-style booklet—was designed to invite curiosity and interaction. Highlights include a friendly mascot-like depiction of the vaquita and reimagined dollar bills, which emphasize the campaign’s central message: how the pursuit of profit is fueling extinction.
This project is a blend of design and data, created to tackle a complex environmental issue with the hope of spreading awareness and inspiring action.
